Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026
This policy explains what information the Making Men website collects, why it is collected, and how it is handled. It is written in plain English and covers the website as it actually works today. It is general information about our handling practices, not legal advice, and it is not a guarantee of compliance with any particular law.
Who is responsible
This website presents the book Making Men by Will Collett, and his speaking and mentoring work. Information you send through the website is received and managed by Will Collett.
Privacy questions and requests can be sent by email to will@makingmen.com.au, which is the contact point for anything covered by this policy. If you need postal contact details or business registration details, ask by email and they will be provided to you.
What information we collect
We only collect what you choose to type into a form. The website has two enquiry forms and a short form for accessing the companion resources.
Speaking enquiry form: your name, email address, phone number, organisation, school or club, your role or position (optional), event type, preferred and alternative dates, event location and state, approximate audience size, audience age group, session type, the details you write about your event, and optionally how you heard about Will.
Mentoring enquiry form: your name, email address, phone number, who the mentoring is for, the name and age of the person seeking mentoring, preferred mentoring type, location, timezone, an optional preferred start date, a general overview of what you would like to work on, optionally what you hope to get from mentoring, optionally how you heard about Will, and — where the person is under 18 — a parent or guardian's name, email and phone number.
Both forms record the date and time of submission, and both require you to tick the privacy acknowledgement before they can be sent.
Companion resources: if you ask for the Making Men companion resources on the home page, we collect your first name and email address, along with the date and time and which resource you first selected. This information is used to provide access to the resources you requested, to understand how the site’s resources are used, and to manage the website. Ticking the privacy acknowledgement is required. You are not added to a marketing list, and none of your answers from the assessments, action plan or habit tracker are collected — those stay with you.
Reader reviews: if you choose to leave a review of Making Men on the home page, we collect the display name you provide, your star rating, an optional title and your review text, along with the date and time of submission. No email address or account is required. Every review is checked before publication, and approved reviews — including your display name and rating — may appear publicly on the website. Submitted reviews, including those not published, are stored for moderation and administration. Please avoid including personal or sensitive information in your review.
We also briefly store a one-way scrambled (hashed) value derived from your network address and your enquiry details. It is used only to stop spam and repeated submissions, cannot be turned back into your address, and is deleted automatically after 24 hours.
The website does not ask for payment details, and does not require an account to browse it or send an enquiry.
Please don't send sensitive information
The enquiry forms are for making initial contact only. Please give a general overview and nothing more. You do not need to include — and we ask that you do not send — medical history, mental health information, disability or diagnosis details, information about legal or family court matters, or other sensitive or confidential information. That is especially important for enquiries about a person under 18.
If anything of that kind is relevant, it can be discussed directly with Will at the appropriate time, rather than typed into a website form.
Why we collect it and how it is used
Enquiry information is used only to:
- read and understand your enquiry;
- contact you directly to discuss it and arrange next steps;
- keep an internal record of enquiries received and their progress.
Submitting a form does not confirm a booking or a mentoring place. Will reviews each enquiry and contacts people directly. We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to a marketing list from these forms.
Enquiries involving people under 18
Where a mentoring enquiry involves someone under 18, the form requires a parent or legal guardian's name, email and phone number, and communication and arrangements are made with that parent or guardian. Please keep information about a young person to a general overview.
A parent or guardian may ask at any time to see, correct or have deleted the information submitted about their child, using the contact address above.
Where the information is stored
Enquiries are stored in a hosted Postgres database provided through Lovable Cloud (which runs on Supabase infrastructure). The website itself is built and hosted on the Lovable platform. Depending on the hosting region, information may be stored or processed outside Australia.
Access rules are enforced by the database itself: the public website can only add a new enquiry. It cannot read, change or delete any enquiry record. Reading enquiries requires signing in to a private administration area as an authorised administrator.
Email notifications
When an enquiry is received, a notification email containing your enquiry details is sent to Will at will@makingmen.com.au, with a reply-to address set to yours so he can respond. Email is sent through the Lovable platform's email service. The email is a notification only — the database record is the permanent record.
Third-party services
These are the external services the website actually uses:
- Lovable — website hosting, the database, and the email notification service.
- Supabase — the database and sign-in technology underlying Lovable Cloud.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces used on the site are requested from Google's font service when a page loads.
- Google Analytics — measures how the website is used, such as pages viewed and how visitors move through the site.
- Google Tag Manager — a tool used only to load and manage the measurement tags above. It does not itself analyse or report on your activity.
- Microsoft Clarity — records anonymous information about how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and general mouse movement, to show where the site is confusing or slow.
- Amazon — the "buy the book" buttons link out to Amazon. Once you follow that link you are on Amazon's site and Amazon's own privacy terms apply.
Analytics and cookies
The website measures how it is being used so it can be improved. This may include the pages you visit, how you arrived at the site, the buttons and links you click (including links out to book retailers), which companion resources are opened or downloaded, and basic performance information such as page load and errors. This information is about how the website is used — it is not used to build an advertising profile of you.
Three systems do this. The website has its own simple, first-party event recording built into the site, which stores counts of page views and clicks. It also uses Google Analytics, loaded and managed through Google Tag Manager. Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser to recognise return visits and group activity into sessions. It also uses Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymous interaction information such as clicks, scrolling and general mouse movement so the site can be improved. Both are loaded and managed through Google Tag Manager; Google Tag Manager is only the delivery mechanism for those tags and does not analyse your activity itself.
Signing in to the private administration area stores a session in that administrator's own browser so they stay signed in; ordinary visitors never trigger this. If you unlock the companion resources, your browser also remembers that so you are not asked again.
The hosting platform may keep standard technical server logs (for example, requests and errors) as part of running the site.
You can limit this measurement using your browser's cookie controls, private browsing, or a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts. Doing so does not affect your ability to use the website.
How we protect information
We take reasonable steps to protect what you send, including:
- encrypted (HTTPS) connections between your browser and the website;
- database-level access rules so enquiry records cannot be read by the public website or by anyone who is not a signed-in authorised administrator;
- a password-protected administration area, with administrator access granted only to specific approved accounts;
- server-side checking of everything submitted, plus limits on length, rate limiting and spam protection;
- keeping enquiry content out of browser logs, and avoiding unnecessary logging of enquiry content on the server.
No website can promise perfect security, but we work to keep the risk low and to fix issues promptly.
How long we keep enquiries
Enquiries are kept as a business record for as long as they remain useful for responding, for follow-up and for record-keeping, and are deleted once they are no longer needed for those purposes. You can ask for yours to be deleted sooner.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask what information about you we hold, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email will@makingmen.com.au with enough detail for us to find your enquiry (for example, the name and email address you used). We will respond within a reasonable time. In rare cases we may need to keep some information where there is a legal reason to do so, and we will tell you if that applies.
Privacy questions or concerns
Please contact will@makingmen.com.au first — most things are sorted out quickly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise the matter with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If how the website handles information changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date at the top will change.
